Hello, I have an orphan foal that I am raising. He is now 12 weeks old. He gets 6 cups of foal lac pellets daily, and now he only gets the milk twice a day. (JUST started this was 3 x a day) and two pounds of Strategy. I was a little concerned about the protein amounts and if he is getting enough feed or too much? I am in the weaning process and according to the bag of Strategy I should be feeding THREE pounds when Legacy is 3 months old. I called the Purina company and was quoted a much HIGHER amount of Strategy when he is weaned.........Like seven pound plus.....at 300 pounds. Legacy's weight is about 270# now.

Hello Gina, We have some very specific recommendations on how to feed weanlings and growing foals at, Care for Horses: Nutrition: Feeding the Growing Foal, Nutrition for Young Horses. By reading these instructions they should get you in the ball park. However neither this article or anyone on the net can tell you are you feeding YOUR horse right: you have to look at your horse to know if he is receiving adequate amounts of good quality nutrients. See the article on the overview of feeding for information on evaluating condition. DrO
