I have started riding a horse that is broke but has been in pasture for several years. I am wondering about using something similar to icy blue on her muscles after riding. Personally I have never used a linament on myself so have no idea whether it does help muscles feel better. Might try it. Does a muscle rub really help or is it more the physical action of the the massage? Massage I often do. Thanks

Lori, Why do you think she needs extra attention to her muscles other than a good warm-up and cool-down ? Was there an injury?

Well, quite honestly Shelley, I have been accused of pampering my horses. Since she is returning to work after a lengthly lay off, (I know how a long hot shower feels to me after a physical days work)I am guessing she is stiff and maybe sore. Aren't you when you start a new exercise program? Her ride is still fairly slow with lots of halt and turns but a big part of conditioning is conditioning the mind. If her body is sore she won't like the work. Probably overkill on my part.

I have never used the stuff, mostly because my horses all seem to be sensitive skinned and I would feel guilty if I gave them a burn or rash. I do think muscle rubs help. It rubs out soreness and helps them relax.

The stuff we rub on is to an extent absorbed through the skin into the horse. How good is this for them (or us?) Personally, I don't think it is a very good idea unless there is some compelling problem. It is regular procedure with some barns, however.
