Discussion on Will she eat my pear trees?

I am fencing off a new section of pasture and I may have 2 pear trees on the fence line. Does anyone know if my horses will chew the bark. I also wonder if they will chew grape vines? Not the fruits, just the barks.
These horses will be well fed & will not be kept in this one area for the whole year. Mostly for foaling & weaning. Thanks.

They might.

Well, I agree with Dr. O about the bark chewing. My guy doesn't chew bark, but this weekend I watched him nip all of the buds off of a small sweetgum tree in the pasture. If you're concerned about the health of these trees and their future fruit production, I'd definitely fence them off from the horses.

your guys will most likely eat your pear trees. I had...let me stress HAD...two pear trees in the pasture when we bought the horses. One has now been cut down and the other, well, it's well pruned from the bottom. We didn't know they'd eat the trees. They also got my plum trees and a peach tree that hung over into the pasture area.
