Discussion on Bermuda grass in North Carolina
Author Message

Posted on Saturday, May 5, 2001 - 12:24 pm:

I am interested to hear from people who have experience in developing pasture in Central North Carolina. It seems that fescue is very commonly planted in horse pastures. We have recently bought property that needs pasture renovation. Has anyone had good luck with bermuda grass? Is it hard to get started? I know it has to be planted in the spring after chance of frost. I'm wondering about actually getting the seed to get started with the dry weather. Thanks for any input.

Liz,
Here in the piedmont region we have a wild type that quickly takes over any bare spots. It seems to be more traffic resistant than the fescue but it does have a shorter growing season compared to the fescue: May through Aug I would estimte compared with fescues 6 month or longer divided spring and fall season.
