Has anyone in a cold climate tried these waters? They claim they are fully automatic..non-electric. The water bowl fills each time they put their nose in to drink and then the excess water drains away, leaving an empty bowl. www.horsedrinker.com

I was hoping you would get a response to this- I just ordered one to install in our pasture in Roanoke VA. I have heard good things about them on other forums, and hope I made the right choice! Thought I'd bump this to see if I can help you rouse a review!

Ann, I'm in Dublin, Va! Just moved from Pennsylvania. Haven't made it to Roanoke yet, but hear it is very nice! I've been looking for someone in the area to chat with.

Hi all,

I do not have first-hand experience, but one of my neighbors has one. She has had it for about 1 year, and it seems to be working OK. I remember that installation was not really easy - her husband got a bunch of used car tires that needed to be buried, I believe.
If you get no first-hand responses, I will be glad to talk to her about it and give some feedback here.

I am not sure where Dublin is. My daughter and I each have horses - hers is QH and mine is QH-Percheron cross. We lease a small barn and field nearby but are in the process of preparing a place at our home and are really looking forward to having them here 24/7. Our home is right on the Blue Ridge Parkway and we look forward to lots of trail riding in the future! Right now we are spending a lot of time on planning and decisions- NOT the fun part! It has been great to be able to go online and try to learn from other's experiences, though.

Dublin is about 45 minutes from Roanoke on 81 South. I have a QH mare and a Paint mare here. Very nice area to trail ride. Jefferson National Forest is a great place to trail ride here. Glad to hear from someone close! Good luck with your planning.
