Discussion on Moldy hay causing colapsed lung?

My brother in law came down off of the mountain from hunting yesterday with his mare. She has lost about 600 lbs in 4 days and he said when he took her out of the trailer at hunting camp she was coughing so hard and so much stuff was coming out of her mouth it looked like she was vomiting. She didn't eat or drink for four days, so finally he was afraid she was going to die so he brought her in to the vet and he said that there was moldy hay in the trailer and it caused this. He said she had a collapsed lung and a lot of fluids building up around her lungs and heart. Can anaphylactic shock cause a collapsed lung? The vet didn't say it was shock but he said an acute respratory reaction to the hay. Does this sound right? I never knew a collapsed lung could come from an ellergic reaction.
