Discussion on New strain of HYPP

Has anyone heard of a new strain of or similiar to HYPP? Please let mr know as we have a QH with no Impressive in her lines that is showing symptoms closely resembling those of HYPP.

The symptoms of such diseases as HYPP, EPM, EMND, EPSM and others can all - on th surface- be similar. The best course of action for any horse showing these symptoms is to have a complete check by a vet quickly. The one common factor to all of these is that the quicker the horse recieves treatmetn the better chance they have for a productive life. -Emily

Hello Leslie, I was talking with a Dr. at one of the veterinary schools/referral centers around here. She said she felt she had seens horses with HYPP like symptoms who were HYPP negative and was wondering if this were a simple genetic defect of if there may not be other as yet unidentified problems in horses. Understand this is all just conjecture and I have not seen these individuals. DrO

ok i have never owned a 1/4 horse till the old mare i inherited recently.... i have heard of the impressive gene.. * what is it..? i have heard of HYPP, what is that..?? sorry i am a little naive on this subject.. ann
