Discussion on Indian Mud (?) Treatment for Sarcoid | |

Posted on Tuesday, Jan 22, 2002 - 1:29 am: We have a 8 yo Saddlebred Gelding named Mike who had a sarcoid excised about 2 years ago. The tumor was about 1/2 inch and on his right rear flank. The biopsy showed it to be cancerous (malignant?).About 2 months ago a small bump less than a 1/4 of an inch appeared on his left shoulder. It changed very little over the two months that we were monitoring it. Over a period of 5 days, four other tumors appeared on the left center side of his neck, right side of neck close to his mane, on his right buttock, and a very small bump next to the first. We recieved a dark red compound from a friend that I cannot name or describe other than to say its like mud. It does not have a stong odor or smell like Red Pepper as Dr. O has suggested. I am a skeptic (extremely so) of such remedies but my wife (who is the real household horse expert) is not. And the paste came from her mother. I did not give it any chance and thus did nothing to document or to biopsy the tumors. I was certain that the remedy would not work and we would soon have the Vet out to biopsy and then excise. We closely clipped around the tumors. We applied the paste like spreading butter only on the immediate vicinity of the bump. On the second day, we removed the old paste and applied fresh paste. Mike, our horse, was noticeably bothered by the second application. The tumors which had before been insensitive now appeared very sensitive. Four days after the application, the tumors had flattened and were replaced with scabby tissue where the compound had been applied. Direct pressure on the scab no longer bothered Mike and seemed otherwise insensitive. 5 days later two of the tumor's scabs removed easily revealing pink mucous skin showing a slight indentatin where the tumor had been. On day 6 and day 7 we administered the 4th and 5th applications. And this is now day 8. All tumors have flattened. Three of the sites have lost first scab and now rescabbed. The largest tumor (left neck) has not yet yeilded its first scab. We don't have a conclusion yet, but whatever it is we received certainly worked in ridding the tumors. I am still incredulous and I am trying to document the rest. I would welcome any comments. I will post my observations of the progress each week. I expect that the skin will fully heal in two more weeks. Thanks for the forum. Dennis Johnson |

It is a strange world where such innocuous substances like toothpaste wil sometimes work wonders and such advanced techniques like radiation therapy will fail. We talk about this in the article and some of the posts. Let us know the outcome.DrO |
