I have a friends whose horse injured it's medial collateral ligament when it was coming out of anesthesia. Could you point me to some information re: healing and prognosis. Also, this horse needs to have surgery on a hemotoma in his sinus cavity when he heals from this injury. She's looking into a place a few hours from them that has underwater recovery. Is there any information regarding this type of recovery? Thank you!

Hello James, Healing, treatment, and prognosis on these type injuries depend on location (most joints have collateral ligaments) and severity and so it is difficult to generalize. Most traumatic induced hematomas are self resolving. DrO

I'm sorry I didn't clarify. The medial collateral ligament he injured is in his knee. The hematoma is an ethmoid hematoma in the sinus cavity. Supposedly they can continue to grow and surgery is recommended. Apparently she has opted to go for the surgery once the knee is pronounced healed. She had been curious as to the odds of it not growing further if she didn't go for the surgery. Thank you! Beth
