  Discussion on Specifically on Salmonella

Dr. O,
Is colitis in anyway the same as Salmonella? I need to know about the causes, clinical signs and treatment specifically related to salmonella only. In your articles it doesn't specifically point out salmonella alone, it just mainly talkes about colitis, clostridia and potomac fever. I need answers to the above question on salmonella alone.
Thank You,

Sandy Mendez

There is nothing different about treating colitis from salmonella and other infectious causes Sandy. Always the big question is should an antibiotic be administered. If an organism can be identified and sensitivity be established or guessed at (like with PHF and tetracycline) it is usually best to go ahead but when an organism is not known opinions among the expert vary.
