Discussion on Panacur for tapes ?
Author Message

My vet told me that Panacur was used to treat tape worms, I can not find any reference to this on your site or other locations. Do you think he is just getting mixed up with Pyrantel?
Thanks Shelley

No Shelly not confused, but not on firm footing either when it comes to the tapes that affect horses.

Fenbendazole is known to have activity against some tapes, Taenia in dogs and Monezia in ruminants, at some dosages. Then against others, like Dipylidium in cats and dogs for instance, it has no activity at all. I cannot find any references at all about its activity against the tapeworms that affect equines and the last time I looked there were no such label claims for such efficacy either on the product. Until we know more I am not sure howe effective it is and would be interested in any research to the contrary.
