  Discussion on Manger Boil
Author Message

My Percheron gelding has a mass (about a handfull in size) on his chest. A friend says it's a manger boil. He says the treatment is to inject steroids into it. Do you think it is a manger boil? If so, is it dangerous? Can I wait until next annual checkup by the vet to treat it?

Hello Gordon,
Without knowing its history, size, tissues involved, and consistency it is impossible for me to make a judgement. This is a common site for a traumatic seroma (serum filled sack caused by blunt trauma) some will go away on their own and others need to be drained. I recommend you have your vet come out to look at it and not wait.
