I had a draft Belgian foal born on Sat. night with this diease. I knew what it was as I had read a small article about this diease in the Draft Horse Journal by Dr. A.J. Neumann. I had the foal put down. He had what looked like severe burns from his front knees down, not much skin, and around his hoof heads where raw. The foal could not get up as he was in pain. Also, his mouth had sharp pointed teeth, and his gums where bleeding. Any information on this would be very helpful. I have been breeding Belgian draft horses for 10 years, and this is the first time I have seen this condition. According to Doc Neumann, this is genetic. The mare that gave birth has had foals before, but I used a different stallion on this particular mare. My other mares are bred to a completely different stallion. Thank goodness. My other foals are alright, as they were not sired by the stallion that the foal had the diease. Thank-you for your time. Sincerely, Sheila

Hello Sheila, Have you read the article associated with this forum? It explains the method of inheritance. The link to it is on the same page you created your discussion on. DrO
