I am looking at a horse to purchase. It you don't know a horses history, how can you differentiate whether the rings on the hoof have been caused by fever, founder, change in diet, etc...?
Thank you for your advice,
Joanie

Hello Joanie,
I don't believe you can unless you can correlate the ring with a historical event. To rule out founder you should look for the presence of seedy toe or better is to radiograph the foot.
