Is Avon SSS Bug Guard safe for horses? We are having a problem with flies and mosquitoes this year, and the Repel X doesn't seem to be working.

I'm using it in a mixture of vinegar and eucalyptus oil. Test it on any sensitive skinned animals - I have one who reacts to baby shampoo! But yes, it's been fine and not anymore toxic than using repelx or other equine designed fly controls. Works great - bugs hate it! Hope this helps. BTW - receipe for the fly swipe out of it I'm using is: 1-16 oz SSS, 1 1/2 Tblsp Eucalyptus Oil, and fill to the 32 oz mark on your bottle with White Vinegar. That's it! (Smells better than other fly swipes too so I use it on myself when in the horses area for an extended period). Dawn

Dawn, You refer to using this as a swipe application. Have you tried it as a spray and if so, did it work?

Yep, spray on one horse because he doesn't spoke. Swipe on the other because he'll go ballistic because of ??? (bad history I guess - got him at 6 years old with "issues"). I love the soft smell, they still land on, but do not bite. I can put it on me with no problems, but can't wear SSS straight as it is so strong smelling it causes my allergies to kick up. Lasts longer than my RepelX does.

Just wanted to clarify -- SSS Bug Guard is not the same as SSS the bath oil -- which is what most people use in the home made remedies. I don't have a bottle of the Bug Guard handy, but I believe the repellant ingredient is deet, isn't it?

According to the Avon literature, SSS Bug Guard is Deet and PABA free. Leilani

Does anyone know what ingredient in the SSS repels the bugs? Is it just the fragrance?
