I have a 10 years Arabian. Do not go to race track, but he does long endorance rides. A year ago, he tripped on his left forleg. Radiographs, and ultrasound shoed nothing. However, his left side of the pastern in his right forleg shows some swelling but no heat. We were advised by the VET to leave him for few months rest. Since then he shows moderate lameness. The lameness will improve with rest and worsen during exercise ( not riding). Aany suggestion on how to move from here ? Would casting be a good solution ? Any one have heard of herb medication that accelarate the heeling of injries casuing lamness?

Hello Yousef,
I recommend the lameness be worked for for location then an attempt made to diagnose the cause. Only then can rational therapy be instituted. Though the swelling a year ago suggests it is the pastern, other structures may have been hurt also, for more see, Equine Diseases: Lameness: The Diagnosis of Lameness in the Horse.
