Hi my yearling has got white feet and when they were cleaned for the trimmer I noticed that from coronet to ground level on the outside quarter of each hind hoof there is a pink strip an inch or two wide. My trimmer suggested he may have knocked his coronary band but I think it is unlikely on the outside and on both hind feet? I have seen one of the other horses occasionally 'crib'on the youngsters rump to move him on - if this is happening regularly could the weight/pressure cause bruised hooves? I think his feet are correctly balanced (equidistant heel bulb to ground on both sides of heels)and his conformation looks OK. Any ideas? Thanks

Jo I would watch the horse walk on a level concrete surface and check to be sure the horse does not strike the outside quarter first at a walk and trot. If might help to take careful videos at a very high frame rate so you can slow it down and pause. If not I have trouble explaining the bruising but on the other hand you see these areas all the time in white feet and they don't seem to have much clinical significance.
