I have an 11 year old british riding cob mare, who is in good health bar one thing.
Two weeks ago an area of small lumpy skin appeared which scabed up, fell off and has now left bald patches. These are about half the size of a small finger nail except for one which is the size of a twenty pence piece (sterling).

The area affected is on her off side on the side of her belly immediately behind her foreleg. I have clipped an area of approx 1 foot square, which is how much is affected.
My vet has prescribed a shampoo nolvasan and green dermobian gell. She has had a skin scrape which came up negative.I have not seen an improvement so far.
One thought is poss rain scold? But we have not had rain for weeks, and I thought it only affected neglected horses.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. It is itchy, and I am riding bare back so the girth does not irritate it further.
