Dr. O the following question was posted on one of my threads so I reposted it hoping you will be able to answer Lloyd R's question.

I have a 5 year old pacing standardbred that is driving me crazy. She
continually ties up, for example I brought her in from light jogging
today and she was sweating Profusely and could barely walk into her
stall. How do I deal with this challenge as she is in very real pain
and I cannot race her like this. Is there powerful medication she can
race and train on that relieves this challenge and further what causes
it in the first place?

Lloyd, have you read the article associated with this forum. You can click on the Rhabdomyolysis: Tying Up, Shivers, PSSM, EPSM link above to read about this condition. To answer your question: no you cannot race a horse experiencing a episode of tying up. It will damage the muscles, assuming you can get the horse to go.
