My dear friend's mare was in a minor trailer accident and now has some back problems. The three horse slant trailer was rear ended and she was in front. Even though the gooseneck absorbed most of the impact, we know she must have been effected . . . . (she was calm and relaxed after she got off the trailer and did not show any obvious injury). She has been cocking her tail to the side since then and has some tenderness on her spine around the kidney (other than that, she seems happy even when being ridden). Our local vet left town and we called out the ambulatory service of the reputable local vet school. No insights there. Just said we may want to try to give her a month off. I worry about doing that since I think that the stretching/warmth/muscle development from being ridden could be helpful. Looking for a back specialist (or even a well regarded chiropractor) in the southeast area, but was hoping someone would have some ideas . . .

You are incorrect, Theresia. If the horse has hurt the muscles of the back, riding is not the best treatment for those muscles and rest and antiinflammatory treatment is rational.
