I posted a while ago about a horse with fibrotic myopathy-like symptoms who the vets suspected may be neurological. To jog your memory/check out for the first time, here's a link to a 2 minute video of my horse being worked on pavement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VykzlTza9J0 My neurologist consulted Dr. Stephen Reed (apparently a big name), who thought the problem may be arthritis of the articular facets (I believe that means something like arthritis in the spinal joints of the neck?) in addition to a fibrotic myopathy. I was wondering if you concur with this diagnosis, given the video? The horse looks significantly sounder on soft ground; is this consistent with arthritis of the articular facets? I have been longeing him, but now worry perhaps I am causing him pain by doing so, as I know arthritis can be a very painful condition. Can the articular facets be injected similar to hocks and other joints of the extremities? I am not entirely clear about what the articular facets are, except to assume they must be associated with the spine if the issue is in the neck. Radiographs are in the process of being scheduled, but will not occur until at least next week. Best regards!

Christina, I haven't seen a response to your question, but am very curious to know what folks think about it.

Sharon, Thanks for bringing this post to out attention. Christina can you email me the video so I can post a permanent link to it here. Place Video Lameness in the subject line and email it to horseadviceREMOVETHISPART@horseadvice.com. Once I get it I will put it under the rest of the previous discussion on this horse so that the whole case can be reviewed. DrO
