I've always been against the use of a twitch because I've heard that their use on the lip can cause damage to the nerves. Is this truly so - or am I just paranoid? What about lip chains? I've seen, on one occasion, the chain end twitch used on an ear. Now I know that this would cause a huge case of ear and headshyness - but wouldn't that sort of pressure also damage the nerves that lie close to the surface? As I get older I find that I need more and more information - thank you Dr. O for the absolute finger saving site! I can pretty much find all the info I may ever need in one spot!

No I don't think you can damage the nerves at the end of the nose: the skin is very heavy here and it is the end. Lip chains pretty much the same. I have seen both used very harshly enough to cause bleeding but without permanant damage. Anyone putting an ear in a twtch is asking for trouble however, though I have not seen it happen I have heard of ears being permanantly damaged from such abuse. Ear twitches should be applied only with the hands and only in very carefully defined situations and only for very briefly by someone who knows what they are doing. DrO
