Thank you so much for all the information here on fescue toxicosis. We recently have had a terrible breeding experience due to fescue, and some horribly wrong information from our previous vet. These were to be our first foals as we are new at this. Unfortunately, we were instructed by the vet caring for our minis that fescue did not affect them like it did other horses. Given what I've now read about why fescue affects horses the way it does, I do not know why our previous vet believed this. Unfortunately, I did not question him until we'd had two stillborns and a weak foal that died after just a couple of days. We still have two miniature mares left that haven't foaled yet. Tomorrow we are taking them to a new vet. The information here has helped me compile a whole list of things to discuss with our new veterinarian. I feel much better about the possibility of saving these two foals.

Shawna, I came across this article when browsing headlines, it's an older article from 1997. DrO keeps more up to date, but thought you might find it informative.
