In this study it is unclear if the roaring that developed post operatively was do to the prior tympany, the surgery, or was incidental. It does suggest correction should be done quickly and under the best conditions possible to minimize damage to the nerves in this area. DrO Can Vet J. 2007 Feb;48(2):192-4. Pharyngeal neuromuscular dysfunction associated with bilateral guttural pouch tympany in a foal. Bell C. Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A 2-month-old warmblood filly was presented for a 1-week history of a large, nonpainful, fluctuant swelling of the parotid and laryngeal area. Bilateral guttural pouch tympany was diagnosed. Surgical correction resolved the guttural pouch tympany; however, postoperative pharyngeal neuromuscular dysfunction developed.
