Dr.O. What can you tell us about the new dewormer Quest plus. It looks to me like it must be purchased through a vet. Jean

Quest is available over the counter. You can find general information at: » Care for Horses » Deworming and Parasite Control » Overview of Deworming. For specific information see, » Equine Medications and Nutriceuticals » Dewormers: Anthelminics » Quest (moxidectin). DrO

No, this is a new version of Quest it is susposed to kill tapeworms and small strongyles. They call it Quest Plus and I don't think you can buy it over the counter.

Jean, I also heard that there is another new product - Ivermectin Gold - coming out this fall. I assumed that it could be bought like any other dewormer. If you find out, let us know. Kathleen

Hello Jean, Our Fort Dodge supplier has contacted us about Quest Plus which I believe is moxidectin (the regular Quest active ingredient) in combination with an effective cestodecide (tapeworm killer). But I am unsure which one. We are on vacation this week and a thorough search of the net turned up doodly so this will have to wait till I get back in the office next week. DrO

We are begining to see a flood of new dewormings products that consist of ivermectin or moxidectin in combination with praziquantel, a cestocide (kills tapeworms). Though the US market is being flooded with this information as of this date they have been FDA approved here but not expected to hit the market till later this summer. On the other hand there are already approved products in most of the rest of the world. These products have a use in a good deworming program and we are editing adding information which should be completed in the next week. DrO

i think Quest plus has just made it into some vet offices.. i had occasion to talk to a distributor last week-she was at my vet's office with samples... supposedly the paste is thicker than the regular quest, so those of you who are used to the real easy syringe of regular quest will find this a little more sticky.. they're working on fixing that... ivermectrin gold is not expected out for a bit longer, from what i heard from the distrubutor..

Thanks Melissa, After Pizer (Equimax) told my staff yesterday morning that they did not have a ship date or price, their sales person and Fort Dodge (Quest Plus) told me in the afternoon they were ready to ship. The price will depend on the amount bought and interestingly the Quest product was not more than the ivermectin product, both were in the 11 to 12 dollar range wholesale with large volumes. DrO
