I have a foal, now 13 hours old that will not nurse his mother. He will drink readily out of a syringe but can't seem to find where the faucets are at. I have tried all the tricks I know. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Kamala,
Nursing requires a combination of instinct, reflexes, physical strength, coordination, and a little bit of learning. When they do not come together it is often a sign of more serious problems. You should look upon this as an early warning of some more basic trouble and go ahead and call the vet out. It may just require one good meal tubed in, on the other hand it may require a lot more.
