My 7 year old western pleasure show horse was diagnosed last year with DJD of the the front pastern. With rest and proper shoeing he was back in the show pen in about 4 months. however he has turned up lame again and i think more drastic measures need to be taken. what are my options? I read where joint injections are not very reliable in this joint. is this true? Is fusion perhaps an option? what would this do to his gait for the show pen? Perhaps someone out there has had a similiar problem, could you let me know how you solved it?

Pastern joint arthritis does not have a good prognosis with injections and yes arhrodesis is an option see, » Equine Diseases » Lameness » Diseases of the Lower Limb » Overview of Diseases of the Pastern.
