Is weight loss commonly associated with rain rot. I have a 2 year old App filly with characteristics of rain rot ... however, also substantial weight loss. Am I treating the right thing here???

You should be treating both conditions Dennis. The rain rot is not a primary cause of weight loss but they might be related as a horse in negative energy balance will also be immune impaired. See Equine Diseases » Colic and GI Diseases » Weight Loss in Horses, particularly the Overview article. DrO

Dr. O ... My vet has given me some info I have not heard regarding rain rot and wanted to run by you for verification. White line infection contributes to this condition as it weakens the immune system. Had me treat the white line with iodine and use peroxide as a wash on the rain rot patches. Seems to be working but am curious as to this diagnosis. Thanks for your help

I have to say this sounds like nonsense to me. WLD is an infection of the dead horn and as such does not interact with the immune system in any way. The two do have an association in that wet conditions promote both but are not required for either. DrO

Sounded like a stretch to me, but what do I know.... What about the peroxide wash for treating the rain rot? Is this feasable, or do I need a new vet?

I have not tried peroxide: does he mean benzoyl peroxide or hyDrOgen peroxide. BP is a common agent in antibacterial skin preperations but I cannot find anything positive or negative about there efficacy against rain rot. DrO
