My mare has developed two peculiar growths on the fleshy area of her 'inner thigh'. They look like a bundle of little legs!! She is cream and they are 'white'. They are not in a position where they might be rubbed by anything, but what, if anything, should I be doing about them? She is not bothered by you touching them.

I am afraid your description, white bundles of little legs, does not do much to help me Janice. How about a picture or three? The fact you have two suggests a progressive process, so perhaps your veterinarian should have a look at these.

Hi Janice,

I think I know exactly what you mean as I found bumps on my horses cannon areas several times, and yes they were lots of white legs. I'm pretty sure they were some sort of tick so zapped them with methylated spirits on a cotton bud and gently rubbed them out of the skin which then bled like mad so they obviously had jaws. The other horses turned out with my mare never seemed to get them. There was a sheep and a goat in the field with them too so they may have been the intended hosts. Removing these little nasties never led to any infection.

Huh? Janice are you seeing a tick? There are not any white ticks nor similar sort of parasites that is white, that I am aware of.
