On Wednesday I found my mare with two long curved lines of lesions, one over her ribs and the other slightly further back towards her flank on the same side. In one, the row of wounds was open, in the other, less so but the surrounding area was swollen. She had been in the stall all night (usually during the summer she's out all night, but the previous evening it had looked like rain). We surmised that she had been upset at her incarceration, especially since she was sore in one hind foot as well (wall-kicking we thought?), but couldn't see anything for her to have injured herself on. Also, the mare in the next stall had had a similar incident earlier this summer. What I'm wondering is whether this sounds to you like bots? (My other idea is that a Central American vampire bat had been feasting on her, except that we are in Greece.)

No Lynn,
bots do not cause skin lacerations, this sounds like trauma.
