Dr. O: A gelding I recently sold to my brother came up with a swollen sheath with no swellings or skin lesions in any other areas. He currently seems perfectly healthy. When he was taken to a vet clinic he was given bute and a drawing salve and was told that it could possibly be Pigeon Fever. I have read all the info you have on this site including all the related posts. I would be surprised if it was Pigeon Fever, but of course it is never impossible. I would like the definition of a word found on one of the posts, ONOCHOCERIASIS; it was not listed in your dictionary. It was related to worms or deworming. I know that my brother had dewormed him recently and was interested in how that might be related to the symptoms of Pigeon Fever. That thread was The Horseman's Advisor » Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Pigeon Fever, Dryland Strangles, & Distemper » Stopping pigeon fever. That was the most interesting and informative thread I've ever read.

Thanks, Jan}

Hello Jan, The reason you can't find this is it is misspelled. See » Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Onchocerciasis Dermatitis for more on this disease.
