Hi All Sultan is a 25 year old standardbred[perfectly fit and happy by the way] with a color I've never seen before. The owners have had him for at least 12 years and got him like this but do not know if he was born this way.
Any ideas? Or is this just the french version of a blaze?

Don't have an answer for you, Jos, but what a cool looking horse - the markings give his face a lot of character. Does he have any other white on his body?

very cool.. looks like he rubbed up against a newly painted wall. !~

On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with spots.

Wow, very cool, I love to see odd markings on horses.
My guess it is just the good Lord and His creativity. (sabino)

Two other pictures of Sultan,I saw his pedigree and he really is a Standardbred unusual isn't it?
His character matches his look: a perfect [old] gentleman.

Sultan:by the way the owner told me his white patches has grown while he is ageing but he always seems to have had a little bit of white around the eyes[still brown eyes!]

Jos,

Ditto on 'way cool'...never have seen such markings before...he is unique...and may I add, I think he's beautiful and looks way younger than his years!!
Great good luck with your fella!!

Jos,
He's gorgeous, looks like circus-clown markings. He obviously becomes more handsome with age.

Hi Jos,

Since he is a standardbred I almost think they once used blinkers on him that may have rubbed the skin and caused the hair to rub-out, maybe when it grew back it came in white. I've noticed on a few horses that if they get a sore or something on an area and lose hair, even by a girth strap sometimes it comes in white, just a thought, if he was used to race at all. I'm sure he has a great personality, most standardbreds I know are very sweet.

Thats a good thought Amber, the markings do do seem to possibly coincide with the blinker fittings, however all the blinkers I have seen or used are on the side only, not around the entire eye. Maybe I'm out of date.

Ilona,I like the circus clown! I think Sultan is sooo dignified[and spoiled] he prefers Mr.Sultan.
The blinker idea is new and perhaps a solution to this mystery!
Still no matter how he got his looks he is totally comfortable with everyone touching him everywhere so I suppose it hasn't hurt him very much.
Jos
PS His owner is so happy he doesn't look his age! Wish it was the same with us!
