I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this post, but I'm trying to describe the problem with one of my friends horses. The horse is a black tennessee walker stallion, and he's been suffering from this problem for almost a year. Last year he was constantly rubbing and there were sores all over his body. His ears were also untouchable because it was so uncomfortable for anything to go near them. The vet treated him for ear mites and allergies (bug bites). After treated, the sores got a little better, but never completely went away.
This year, they are back and have now gotten very bad. He's got it on his face really bad, and his legs are bad, and so is his chest. His tail is untouched, but he was rubbing his mane so bad that the owner shaved it all off in the winter.
I think it may be contagious just because the horse's halter is used with another horse (the owners other horse), and the other horse's face is starting to get this condition on his face.
The horse is on corn oil and olive oil (don't ask), she his omega fatty acids are very high. He is wormed regularly, and is on a daily wormer.
When you look at him, his body looks like it has bumps all over it, but when you feel for them you feel nothing.

He is constantly itching, and today when we went to see him, there was a lot of open sores from his rubbing.

At first I thought it might be allergies, but now i'm not so sure. If anyone has experience with something like this, or has any suggestions, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Also, our new farrier saw it and said it was some kind of fungus (i don't remember exactly what he said). He said to treat it that I should mix mineral oil and sulfur together and apply it twice a day? Has anyone heard of anything like that? I wasn't sure if sulfur would be too harsh?

Dr. O, any advice is appreciated. Thank you everyone!
