Will a plump horse founder from too much bermuda hay? My quarter horse mare is body score of 8, is on restricted exercise right now and is fed free choice bermuda only. The reason for the free choice hay is because shes in with my yearling filly. No exersice because im in 7th month pregnancy. No turn out available for the next 4 months.

hmmmm, she doesnt look so fat in these pictures. I weight taped her---1158. 15.3hh. doesnt sound so bad. But I cant feel her ribs at all, definate fat bulge behind shoulder, crease along back/ butt. https://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o219/leslie645/000_1326.jpg https://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o219/leslie645/000_1339.jpg https://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o219/leslie645/000_1335.jpg

Leslie, Though it is difficult to judge your horses from the photos, horses at an 8 are prone to founder no matter what their feedstuffs. You need to adjust the diet to prevent any further weight gain until after the pregnancy when you should not have trouble getting down to a condition of 6. DrO
