I recently purchased a horse for light (4-H) showing by my daughter. Horse has been diagnosed by one vet as having excessive calcium deposit around button of MCII-LF w/corresponding desmitis. Needing Surgery. Another vet, claims there is a benign calcuim deposit present without lameness or afflection. No treatment needed. I'm not sure who to believe. Horse has shown no lameness for us, before, during or after riding.}}

Exostosis of the splint bones are called, "splints". With no lameness the benign opinion is most likely correct. You can read more about this common condition at, Equine Diseases » Lameness » Diseases of the Lower Limb » Diseases of the Splint Bones. DrO

Thank you. Are there any precaution we should take when we start working this horse? Someone mentioned - Wrapping the front legs and avoiding trotting in tight circles ?

Without examing the horse Chandra, I cannot say, but cold splints (again see the article) don't require any special treatment. Ask the second opinion vet are there any special precautions, he seems to have his head on straight. DrO
