Dear Dr.O, My little arab Akacja the subject of my questions under 'corpus haemmorragicum' is pregnant![only two weeks] As the season is finished I want her to come home but we have had an outbreak of EVA over here. The studfarm has as soon as it was confirmed there were problems with EVA in the regio closed its 'doors' for new mares and didn't inseminate new mares . The stallions didn't leave the property either. Now after four weeks they all seem healthy at the studfarm and at home with me too.[my primary concern being my other mare 8 weeks pregnant and returned from the same studfarm appr. 4 weeks ago before the outbreak was made public]. The studfarm advised me to put Akacja in a paddock of her own leaving room in between the two fences so the horses cannot touch each other. Though I do own 18 acres they are in one big piece with the stables in the middle so real isolation seems impossible. Does keeping the horses from nose to nose contact do any good? As it will upset Akacja who usually stays with other horses I will have to have a good reason for separating her. So in case she is or gets sick is this kind of 'isolation' of any use? Thanks as always Jos

Hello jos, Yes, preventing nose to nose contact is important in preventing spread. The transmission mode is covered in the article as long as recommendations for length of isolation. DrO
