Previous posts lost due to server problems. I have found a bit more detail on the test my horse had here in the UK on a website from a Veterinary Lab in Cambridge. It is a TRH Stimulation test and measures cortisol increase in response to a test hormone. It also says this test is not available in the US but not why. If you would find it useful for advising us Brits the site gives details of all the tests they carry out and is www.cslabs.co.uk

Thanks Marise, I went and looked and it seems as though this lab thinks that you can gain useful information about pituitary adenoma by stimulating it with thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH). This hormone is responsible for causing the release of thyroid stimulationg hormone, which stimulates, of course, the thyroid. The lab states that recent research says this has an effect also on the adrenal gland that differs from horses with a normal pituitary. That is where I have a problem: I cannot find this research and would be interested in any further information. DrO

Sorry this has taken so long but I have been trying to find more details of this test without success. Just to update, my horse has now been on pergolide for ten weeks and returned to ridden work three weeks ago. His diet and turnout has been adjusted to try to avoid any laminitic triggers and he is looking and feeling well. Many thanks Marise
