I have a 16 yr old QH/TB mare who has been lame since I bought her. A lameness check has determined the pain is in her left front knee. X-rays show a slight case of arthritis in her foot, but nothing that would make her limp the way she does. I have noticed that she has difficulty getting up after napping and waits about 30 seconds before she takes a step. I have been giving her Free & Easy, and in the past Next Level and this-and-that Flex with glucosamine hcl and chonDrOitin, etc., but have seen no change or improvement. I am at a loss as to what to do and really want her sound so I can enjoy riding again. Money is very tight, so extended supplements and professional therapy is not an option. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What makes you sure it is the knee and that arthritis is the cause of the lameness? DrO

The first vet did a lameness test and when she got to the left front knee and held it up for 1 minute, she limped when she moved. After that, we did xrays and were only able to find a slight case of arthritis. I don't know what else it could be or what and how to look for. She also lifts up her left front when she stops after jogging. Also, the way she slowly gets up after lying down and waits so long before stiffly taking a step leads me to believe it would be arthritis.
