There is a mare I am caring for that has the most odd looking area on her neck. It is about the size of a soft ball and the hair is very short (shorter than a summer coat). The suprising thing is that the patch "sweats". I wouldn't describe it as oozing, as it is very thin and water like and leaves no residue. This patch sweats a lot, even when the mare is not hot. She is also very sensitive to the touch in this area. Is this something to be concered about?

Could it be ringworm?

I suspect it is the site of a former injury. It's not uncommon for the site of a former injury to sweat like that, esp. if there was any nerve damage.

It could either be former injury or a congenitial deformity (something she was born with). Either way if short hair and increase sweating are the only signs this is unlikely to be a problem.
