Hi all, I have a 9 year old Lusitano who over the last couple of days has presented with what I can only describe as looking like varicous veins about a hand size over the centre of his gaskin. The area is neither hot, nor his he lame. It is like his muscle has gone all lumpy and not just a swelling under the skin. He lives on a hill and seemed to happen after a particularly hectic runaround where he was sweating quite heavily. Yesterday I tried to massage the area, he was not in the slightest bothered by this, although the massage did not seem to make any diference. Does anyone have any ideas what this is???????????? Many thanks in advance Anita

Is this the only area you are seeing this? You aren't seeing his veins, are you? When horses get hot, at least when Arabians do, their veins become much more prominent and enlarged. It enables them to cool off better.
