My mare has some swelling in one hock. I think it is a thoroughpin from what I have been able to unearth from various sources. The swelling on the inside is larger than the outside. It is a soft but firm swelling, and goes through the leg. There is no lameness, but I haven't made her do anything like trot around. I have been just observing her wandering around the pasture.

Also, is it Throughpin or Thoroughpin?

So what do you think? Do I have the right ailment?

Hello Laurie,
It looks like a throughpin to me Laurie but realize that is a symptom (fluid distension) and not a ailment as it may be associated with several different problems. For more see the article associated with this discussion area.
