Posted on Monday, Sep 3, 2007 - 2:12 pm: In reading ...First aid Advice for Puncture Wound inside Rear Leg postI read about Angie's horse.. Angie, great photos and descriptions of your horses injury.. Ok Dr. O I am today dealing with something like that.. Went out to feed and my long yearling was limping.. very little blood.. i noticed a puncture wound almost in the same place as Angie's horse. inside hind leg between the leg and sheath... Had the vet out, she flushed it , he is on SMZ's and bute.. VERY sore .. Looking around the field i see a T post with the cap off / slanted.. yup blood on it.. he must have been scratching and got impaled by it.. ugh.. Vet said the same as Dr. O a common injury.. I worry about muscle holes.. but my vet put her hand up to her palm did not feel the end .. I would guess in feeling she would be able to tell if there was another puncture Is this correct Dr. O?.. Vet said that it followed along the inside of his leg .. Are there any muscle / tendons i should be worried about??? My vet said to not be surprised with swelling under the belly and leg , to let him move at liberty in his pasture.. I will cold hose him twice daily, should i do more then that..? I don't think he will allow me to insert a syringe to flush it.. A hose will be enough? On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with spots.. |

Went out to collect him up and HE RAN AWAY from me.. nope, MOM , you are cold hosing my boo boo.. so he RAN... so much for the shuffle i am sore thing going on..Haven't really worked with him for a while, but am happy to report he remembers my training.. He wanted to do the circle thing, I had husband do the hose and i held him on a loose rope with my stick insisting that he not invade our space and stand still .. He remembered!!!! Ok MOM, this does not feel good , but i will stand.. No swelling, very little drainage.. On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with spots.. |
