Australia here looking for help. Wondering if there has been any new development in the treatment of Lymphoma. My 13yo Clydesdale Cross has been diagnosed with lymphoma. multiple lumps appeared on the sheath and a biopsy was taken to confirm. He has been in good health although perhaps quieter than usual. Vet prescribed 'preddy granules' but unfortunately these caused a founder effect and he became unwell. Stopped the treatment and he has come good again. Blood tests have shown that his kidneys are good. Appetite is good and he looks well except for being so quiet.
Am hoping there may be some new information that would help me care for this guy.

Welcome Anne,
I presume that only the cutaneous form has been diagnosed in your horse?

It is important to realize that despite a widespread opinion among vets that glucocorticoids induce founder there is research that contradicts this notion. Trying to experimentally induce founder with steroids has failed in numerous attempts with immune suppressive dosages. I wonder if you may have other predisposing causes to founder or bruising, see Diseases of Horses » Lameness » Diseases of the Hoof » Founder & Laminitis » Founder & Laminitis an Overview. If you do find other possible predisposing causes perhaps addressing them will allow you to use what is the most useful therapy available to you.

The information in the article is up to date and describes other treatments albeit more expensive and more toxic than steroids. Have you discussed them with your veterinarian?
