Hi DrO, Remember when I posted about my newborn foal with an umbilical infection? We successfully treated it, the ultrasound came back clear, etc... Well, that same foal is doing well except for her movement, it has me concerned! Because I'm aware of the implications of Joint Ill & worried that the umbilical infection could have resulted in Joint Ill, I've kept my eye on her. I've continually checked her joints for heat and swelling, though they've never shown signs of either. I've read the article on Joint Ill as well, but it doesn't really "match" what my filly is doing. There is no heat, no swelling or malformation around her joints. However, she seems to walk stiffly on her front legs, especially when she first rises from a nap. When watching her move, it's almost as though her front legs are too short. She extends her front legs out with each step before bending her knees to move forward and her movement isn't smooth and flowing like it should be. I don't know if I'm explaining this as well as I could be, but it has me concerned. I did mention my concern for Joint Ill when we first started to treat this filly for her umbilical infection, but my Vet didn't seem too concerned. Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? Is there anything else I could describe or explain? Thanks in advance for any suggestions, etc. Baffled in BC, Lanna

Hmmm, that does not sound like joint ill, unless low grade and bilateral: a condition I have never seen. Usually there is remarkable fast moving lameness that rapidly becomes nonweight bearing. But I am having trouble picturing it and unsure your description does not describe normal. Maybe it is time for our first video on Horseadvice: have you got the capability for digital video. If you email it to us I will insert it here for others to see and evaluate. How is the conformation? DrO
