Hi katherine livingstone here just looking for some advice and hopefully reassurance, has anyone out there ever had a horse with long term OPS and non-displaced fractures to the pedal bone. i have just bought a horse that i have known for 3 years she is a fantastic mare, however her previous owner did not know she was suffering from OPS and fractures, she just assumed she was stiff. now that she is mine i decided to get her vetted and x-rayed she was also nerved blocked. she is now on bute and has to have sugical shoeing for the next 6 months and steroidial interarticular joint injections. i have seen complete recovery in horses and they have returned to full competitive work im still worried about my mare. please give me good news! my vet david scott is awesome!!!and has told me i can return her to work but i would like to contact people who have experienced this condition and overcome the long recuperation and training time.

Katherine, I have seen dozens of horses with radiographic abnormalities of the coffin (pedal) bone that were sound, and fractures that are not displaced and not articular have a good prognosis, so take heart. DrO
