DrO, or anyone, what is the approximate ballpark cost for the equipment needed for shock wave therapy? Do many of the big equine clinics have it or is it cost-prohibitive for all but universities and a few elite practices?
Thanks, Cindy Nielsen

We have local practices with ESWT units. There is a wide variation in costs and I have seen small units for as low a 1000 dollars and those over 10,000 dollars. I have not seen if the lower price units have the energy and output characteristics needed to compare to results in experiments.

Hello Dr. O, I have what will likely seem like an odd question - I'm looking for additional information regarding the cost of an ESWT unit.

I'm considering making a capital investment in our local vet clinic (buying an ESWT machine) but before I make the offer I'd like to get a sense of the magnitude of the investment. I've tried to find cost information on the internet without success. The only unit I found that referenced pricing is in the UK and is ~$57,000. That makes me question whether I'm on the right track as I had previously heard costs more consistent with what you referenced above. Do you know what the general cost might be now and/or can you refer me to where I could get additional information? Many Thanks.

Hello Laurel,
No I do not have any more information than that above and was basically taken from recollections of what I have seen at trade shows. I am really suspicious about the lowest cost units and don't doubt that you can spend as much as 60,000 dollars.
