My horse had a thyroid test done recently. Evidently he is at 1.4 and the normal is 1 to 1.3. In your article you state what could be reasons to consider a thyroid problem. 1) poor performance, --- Stupid question but I have to ask. If you can remember all that's been happening with him this last year, does it amount to poor performance? (2) horses with muscle disorders, - Not that I know of. (3) failure to grow, - He grows OUT (;) (3) poor appetite, -- Not a chance - unless he's colicky (4) dull, poor hair coats, -- his coat is beautiful even when it's dirty (5) neonates which are weak, uncoordinated or malformed, -- Have no clue (6) enlarged thyroid gland, --Not sure if this is what the 1.4 is (7) poor body condition, -- yes, but it could very well be because he's not been in consistent work for a year. See my profile for a picture taken a couple of weeks ago. (8) increased sensitivity to cold, -- He's ALWAYS been sensitive to cold, I attributed it to arthritis and that he hurts. My question to you..and to my vet...is: Does he really warrant this supplement? Thanks Dr. O.

I presume you have misplaced the decimal, if he is on thyroid supplement, and the level in your horse was 0.13. Of course he doesn't need to be on thyroid supplement, even with a level of 0.13. I just attended a seminar on thyroid disease and function testing in horses and it continues to support the statements and conclusions in the article. DrO
