A friend and I were looking at an AQHA mare to purchase. We DrOve 3 hours to look at her in person and took some pictures. The plan for now is to have the trainer look at her and potentially get a full prepurchase exam done, if everything checks out. She's perfectly sound and smooth gaited right now. I'm debating on how bad her leg conformation is vs. how poorly her feet are balanced. I'm just not sure if she's going to have problems in the future with these legs. The goal is a horse that stays sound with 4-6 day a week riding in an arena and trail riding in the summer, at least once a week for several hours. Right now she's not in great condition for lots of riding, but would be brought along slowly to get ready for next summer. I'm attaching a few pictures of her front legs and an overall conformation shot.

Heidi, the photos are difficult to interpret and secondary to how the horse moves on those legs. However I do not see anything to keep you from going forward with your plans of further evaluation. Good Luck. DrO

I'm sorry about the picture size. I'll try to post a bigger one of the front legs. Do you think that a good farrier could get these feet balanced a bit more.

A good farrier can definitely improve these feet and it will happen faster the better the farrier. If this horse is sound and comfortable barefoot, I think you should keep it barefoot as the process will happen much faster if you can do frequent trims making small changes.
