Posted on Thursday, Jan 17, 2008 - 3:11 pm: Hello,I am new to this board, and joined due to my new resale horse that I think is becoming less and less resellable! I have recently purchased a warmblood gelding coming 4 in April. On the clinical exam -moving to the left the was intermittent short strind with the RF. The thermal scan showed mild heat pattern on the "lateral sesamod of the RF fetlock, RF carpusm in region of intermediate carpal bone" and no other abnormalities noted. There were a few stress lines affecting the intermediate carpal bone-this horse was jumped as a 3 year old-lightly but up to 3'6 All flexions were WNL... my vet felt this horse was suitable for a prepurchase as an event horse/and as resale prospect...I am wondering if he is indeed sound....because still remains slightly short on the RF when lunging to the left-which seems odd to me... He will be retrimmed next week because the RF foot in not balanced high on the inside wall...and my vet is coming out again next thurs to re-assess. I have digital xrays .Need to get the link up. Based on this intermittent inconsistency , very mild head bop...I am seeing on the lunge line although very minimal is a CONCERN! (undersaddle no visable shortness felt or seen) just free on the lunge... no heat-no swelling-horse seems eager to move forward on the lunge Looking forward to your thoughts ...on this Jenna |

You are gambling in buying a sound horse to resale ..I would walk away if coming out to look at a horse if he was not sound at liberty... I wish you luck and hope a balanced trim will fix it.. On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with spots.. |

If the first image on the left is any indication of the hoof balance (and not the horse standing crooked) it does look like a lot of work needs to be done there and that may resolve your problem. If not I would recommend a complete lameness exam as described at Diseases of Horses » Lameness » Localizing Lameness in the Horse. Jena, we would prefer you posted the images in the discussion itself for a number or reasons not the least of which is we know it will not disappear in the future.
