Hi Dr. O,

How does tendon splitting improve chronic tendinitis of the SDF? I have some understanding of its implication in the treatment of acute lesions, but how could a horse with chronic pathology benefit from this procedure?

The idea is that it allows vascularization to reach tissues that have been damaged but quit healing. You have to remember the prognosis of these chronically effected horses is poor to begin so not much is risked and as the article indicates, it is not clear this helps.
